November Heal Meal: Día de Muertos

Celebrate Día de Muertos with MO Ho Justice at our FINAL Heal Meal of 2023!
Instead of a discussion, we will invite our loved ones in the after-life to join us as honored guests for a celebration of their lives. Even death will not stop us from uniting in community!

Before celebrating, we’ll have the opportunity to care for our grief in quiet meditative space, with peer grief support/spiritual care, and/or through prayer and ritual. We’ll prepare the altar, then join both living and dead members of our community to feast, dance, and reminisce!


What’s for dinner:
A potluck-style meal made with love by MO Ho staff + community members!

  • Potluck contributions (labeled with allergens) are welcome, but not expected.


Feel free to bring:

  • your guest’s favorite food to share

  • printed and/or digital photos of your guest, or other small tokens

  • offerings for the altar

  • their favorite songs to sing/dance to

  • favorite stories/memories of your guest

  • candles

  • flowers


Wellness offerings:

  • Community Closet

  • Hair and skin care

  • Makeup

  • HRT injection kits + sharps containers

  • A wide variety of condoms and lubricants, including FC2 condoms!

  • Dental dams

  • Menstrual pads and tampons

  • Pregnancy tests

  • Plan B

  • Narcan and fentanyl test strips

  • You’ll be asked the following questions to complete registration—we invite you to answer as candidly or creatively as you choose. We respect your privacy!

    • Identify yourself as a student or parent (you don’t need to be either, just pick one)

    • Provide a first and last name (doesn’t have to be your real name)

  • Reply to our messages to RSVP, ask questions, or request access support (including transportation).

  • Reply STOP to unsubscribe from invites at any time!

Do I need to RSVP?

Everyone is encouraged to RSVP, but it is not required unless you are:

  • Bringing a support/service animal with you

  • Requesting transportation support

  • Requesting additional access supports

  • Submitting community events or shout-outs

Accessibility:

  • Wheelchair accessible

  • Size-inclusive seating

  • Calm Corner available

  • Allergen/dietary labels for food

  • COVID safety:

    • Masking required when not eating

      • Free KF95 masks available for both adults and children!

    • Option to take your plate to-go

    • We will do contact tracing in case of COVID exposure

  • Please RSVP to tell us if you have:

    • Dietary restrictions/allergies

    • A support/service animal

    • Transportation needs (we have limited transportation stipends available on a first-come first-serve basis)

    • Any other access needs not listed here—we welcome additional accessibility support requests and will do our best to accommodate them (as our capacity allows)!

Privacy:

  • Attendees will be offered the opportunity to discreetly indicate interest in worker-only spaces/resources at check-in.

  • We will not ask you for personally-identifying information except for a way to contact you if we need to do COVID contact tracing.

Cops (on or off duty) and cop-like behavior are not invited into our space, not ever.
